Head Coach Jeff Houser

After 7 years a member of Canada's National Kayak Team, Jeff (an exercise physiologist) turned his hand to coaching. In 1991, after a year as Head Coach at Mic Mac AAC in Nova Scotia, rival club Banook came calling. In just 2 years, Jeff lead Banook to it's first ever CCA Burgee for the overall Canadian Championship. and in the same year to the Canadian Masters Title! For his efforts, Jeff's athletes were named Team of the Year for Nova Scotia in 1992, and again in 1993. In 1995 Jeff took over from Tony Hall as Nova Scotia Provincial Coach, and then joined Tony in Georgia as Coach of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club helping lead the club to it's two USACK Titles in both 1999 and 2000.

Jeff is sought out for his technical skill and complete understanding of sprint racing. Whether you are looking for training or technical instruction at the Olympic level, or simply trying to stay upright in a sprint boat, Jeff is the coach you need on your side.

Jeff has been involved in coaching education for several years, and is a past president of the Canadian Association of Coaches in Canoe and Kayak. His athletes have represented their countries in Sprint and Marathon, and Jeff acted as coach of the 2000 and 2001 Canadian Marathon Canoe Teams.


Jeff is a five time Canada Games team coach, and in addition to coaching at several clubs in both Canada and the USA, is the former USA Programs Director. From 2007 to 2019, Jeff was the Regional Coach/Technical Director for the Atlantic Division of Canoe Kayak Canada (ADCKC). He is a current member of the Canoe Kayak Coaches Technical Committee and sits on the CKC High Performance Committee.

Jeff holds a BSc (Kinesiology/Sport Science), and the NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma (Level 4/5, Competition Advanced). - Canada's highest coaching certification, and is a Coaches of Canada, Chartered Professional Coach.
